Photographer & Filmmaker

Guajajara, Brazil

Genilson Guajajara is from the Indigenous territory of Rio Pindaré in Maranhão, Brazil, and belongs to the Guajajara people of the village of Piçarra Preta. A thoughtful and emotive storyteller, he shares his community’s narratives through photography, film, and literature. His work explores themes of community, ancestral wisdom, Indigenous cosmology, ritual, and ceremony. For Genilson, photography is a vital tool to communicate the stories of his people with honesty and care, strengthening ancestral resistance rooted in cultural practices and ways of life.
