Occupying Spaces Through Indigenous Cinema

Transcript

I think my dream within my territory is to see new generations producing Indigenous films, without the presence of non-Indigenous people, with 100% Indigenous People producing cinema, occupying more space on TV, in cinema, internationally, that the films can win Oscars, right? That’s our dream. That’s it, that Indigenous People themselves producing films can be successful. So, we occupy more spaces through cinema and communication.

Renan Khisetje envisions new generations producing fully Indigenous-led cinema—films created, directed, and told by Indigenous people themselves. His dream is to see Indigenous stories occupy more space on TV, in national and international cinemas, and gain global recognition.

For Renan, cinema is a way to occupy space, strengthen Indigenous narratives, and expand representation through communication.
