The Power of Connection – Tirza Yanira Ixmucané
Transcript
Well, for me, the experience within this space, which is Our Village, is a lot of experiences, the truth is it’s a lot of feelings, so many things. First, because I feel like it’s the best place, I’m a little shy, so it’s hard for me to talk or connect with people, but in spaces that are like more intimate, where people naturally come together, it’s much easier to talk to them, to approach, to have conversations. I don’t know, talking a little about what we’re doing and being able to participate in these spaces of film, art and even the spaces where we eat, because food brings people together and food is like a language that goes beyond words and gestures. It’s like a way of dialogue between peoples. And I think that eating is not just for the stomach, but also for the heart and the mind. So, I feel like what I’m taking from this is the experiences of connecting with other people from different territories, with different ways of feeling and being. And knowing that beyond the fact that there are artists, filmmakers, activists or people living in other ways, we are all connected by the same feelings, and we are all necessary and important for what we want in the world, for what the world, the territory, needs. We are working on that, we are moving towards that. And I think it’s what I would like to see more of in the future and what we’re already seeing is that also artists, activists are taking ownership of this to come together and create things.
Tirza Yanira Ixmucané (Mayan K’iche I Guatemala) reflects on the transformative experience of Our Village, where film, art, and shared moments foster deep connections across cultures and movements. In these spaces, dialogue extends beyond words—through food, creativity, and collective action.
With each day as an opportunity to learn, she envisions a future where technology and storytelling converge, strengthening global resistance and amplifying voices for change.
