Indigenous Storytelling in Action – Peregrino
Transcript
In this house, in ‘Our Village’, I had a very beautiful experience because I gathered with other Indigenous People from other parts of the world. During these gatherings I attended, thanks to the support of If Not Us Then Who, that experience was my first, and it motivated me to keep moving forward in telling my stories.
My dream is to help all Indigenous Communities, to go with them, work with them and tell their stories together with them. That is my dream to be happy and one day protect our territories together through cinema. I want to take care of the Indigenous People because we have that responsibility. I feel the responsibility to protect my Indigenous relatives. And that gives me strength and I have a big responsibility to take care of them and I have to find a way to protect them and… I want to tell stories with them.
My name is Peregrino Gonzalo Shanocua Chaeta. I am an Ese Eja Indigenous from the Madre de Dios region of the Peruvian Amazon.
“My dream is to help all Indigenous Communities, to go with them, work with them and tell their stories—together with them.” – Peregrino Shanocua Cha
Through Our Village and the support of If Not Us Then Who, Peregrino, an Indigenous filmmaker from Madre de Dios, Peru, discovered not only his passion but his purpose: to tell real stories from within his community—stories of resistance, resilience, and the urgent threats they face.
From the Amazon to international film stages, Peregrino is part of a powerful movement of Indigenous storytellers using cinema to reclaim their narratives.
